Profits from 16 book sales have been used to support a variety of Library initiatives. A significant proportion has accrued toward a major gift for the Library. The Friends were thrilled to be at the sod turning ceremony for the new central library ceremony in June, 2023, and to present a BIG CHEQUE for $1,000,000 in September, 2023.
In recent years The Friends:
- made the lead gift of $10,000 to establish the Library’s endowment fund.
- supported the cost of two pieces of library-related art.
- funded the purchase of the new Charging unit in the main library.
- supported the cost of the internal fittings for the new bookmobile.
- provided matching funds for grant applications
- supported children’s reading programs
- agreed to fund a program to provide library packages including board books for each of the more than 1600 babies born in Guelph every year.
In June, 2023, the Friends received the Guelph Today 2023 Community Builders Award for 20 years of advocacy and support of the Guelph Public Library.
Through the 2024 book sale, the Friends raised another $95,000 to benefit the Guelph Public Library. We are on our way to our second million!
